About the Author

Ramesh Gaonkar is professor of Electrical Engineering Technology at Onondaga Community College in Syracuse, New York. He is also responsible for the development of the Computer Technology Program, STIP-Skills Improvement Program and Apprentice Program and is the author of several books. Prior to teaching, Mr. Gaonkar was a Design Engineer where he was responsible for Circuit Design. He has served as consultant for the National Science Foundation, Advanced Technology Program Proposal Review, Development and Evaluations Associates, and the National Institute of Industrial Engineering in Bombay, India. Mr. Gaonkar has received several awards, including the SUNY Chancellor's Award for Creative and Scholarly Activities, the Central NY Technology-Outstanding Teacher Award, and the American Society for Engineering Education Outstanding Teacher Award. He is a member of several professional organizations serving in leadership capacities. Mr. Gaonkar received his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, his Master's of Science in Physics from Bombay University, his Master's of Science in Electrical Engineering from Union College and his Doctorate in Instructional Technology and Electrical Engineering from Syracuse University.

Only reason I bought this book was because it was the required text for the class. None of the questions have answers in the back and the software is only good for 30 uses. In my opinion, the purchase of the book should come with an extended or full software license. Absolutely ridiculous to have spend additional money after the initial trial!!

So glad I only rented this book. My professor has found at least 2 coding errors per chapter. Apparently, the editors of this book were out to lunch for the entire thing. The code, verbatim from the book, does not work in MPLABS. That was super helpful when trying to learn it. Great job, guys.

It is an excellent book.It is very easy to read and comprehensive.I like it, I recommend this book.

Gaonkar gives you a very detailed education in programming embedded systems. You learn that a microcontroller is really just a special type of computer, where you deal directly with the von Neumann architecture. The specific choice of hardware is the PIC18. Of course, by the end of the book, you should be fluent in writing assembler for it. But, more generally, the skills can be readily transferred to most other types of microprocessors currently on the market. Plus many that do not yet exist. The Neumann design is unlikely to be supplanted. It has existed for over 60 years, being successfully instantiated in succeeding generations of hardware.The book has many questions and assignments for each chapter. Along with a simulator for the PIC18 and exercises that involve programming for it. Realistically, many hours will be needed to tackle these problems. Which makes it well suited to accompany an undergraduate course.

Becky Lamb is a builder, junker, repurposer, blogger, crafter, teacher, wife, and mother of three. She likes to say she was weaned on decoupage glue and feels blessed to be raised by a mom who decorated their home on a very limited budget. This book is amazing! I have loved the trend of creating and upcycling/recylcing products. This book is an amazing way to get inspired with pallots. My boyfriend often complained about the idea of taking on a project so instead I picked up this book to look into how I could do things without his help. I have loved this book! It's been great at giving step by step instructions [ pictures included - yay ] for newbies like me. Without much experience at all, this book was incredibly helpful. The book even includes supply list, tools, time it takes and level of difficulty! This made things super easy and efficient. I would have hated to waste time on something that was so far beyond my scope that it asn't possibe. Looking forward to finishing my first project. Up next: Trying to find room to put it!

I've been following her blog and pinning her projects on Pinterest for quite sometime. Her book is great for beginners and experts alike. It has great tips to get you started, she is so creative and I admire her work so much! I've been so fortunate to find her ideas and have them inspire me within my own home, it's very difficult finding furniture in Okinawa so this book and her blog have been an amazing help in furnishing our home with the little resources we have on this island. This book is definitely worth checking out!

One of my hobbies is browsing the free section on Craigslist, and I've recently been noticing a lot of pallets up for grabs. Continuing with this train of thought, I called some local businesses (grocery stores, home depot, etc.) to see if they had pallets to give away as well. I wanted to make something with all this wood, but I wasn't sure what, so I bought this book. I was really happy that it offered suggestions on where to get pallets, and many of the suggestions lined up with my own searching, and was most excited that it included a section on pallet quality. One of the things I had trouble with on my own was collecting a lot of pallets, and having discrepancies in quality, size, and color. Thanks to this book I now know why!Beyond this basic information I was quite happy with the things this book recommends to build with pallets. The projects range from easy (key hanger) to pretty hard (wine bar), and each instruction is easy to follow. Lamb also includes overviews of all the tools one may need while working with pallets, and includes which auxiliary parts may be necessary (metal hooks, etc.). I also love that Lamb includes ideas for what to do with pallet scraps such as a memory game. Since one of the main reasons I got this book was to reduce global waste, and get into recycling wood into art, I very much like her 'use every part approach.' Very cool book for the handyperson of any age! Could see it being a really fun time for a dynamic parent/child pair.

Get this book which gives you many ideas for using up the wood, And while we are making projects, we have the pallets stacked, which serve as condos for our numerous starlings and sparrows (not so sure this is an asset). Not only will you get step-by-step instructions for making items for home and yard, but just browsing through the numerous color photos will inspire you to think of other uses; for example we made a multiple tiered yard play set for our pygmy goats.

I think this book is so cute! I was a little nervous when buying it, because I’ve made very few wood crafts. But the book walks you through every step, from picking the perfect pallet, to the tools you need, to safety, and so on. My favorite crafts include command center- a message board with places to keep important things. So fun! I’ve also made a Record Storage Crate for my boyfriend. He loves it! My next goal is to try the entry table. I really love the ideas this book has, and I can’t wait to do even more!

 This book is not a book like I thought it was going to be. Although filled with several amazing ideas, I thought that this was going to be a larger book than what it was. I'm not 100% dissatisfied though, there were some really cool ideas I can't wait to make!

For someone who lives near a grocery store pallets are definitely not hard to come by. So when I saw this book online I thought "why not?". The book is organized very well and has a variety of projects to choose from like creating a coffee table or my favorite the wine bar. The book is outlined similarly like a cookbook, The tools needed are in the beginning followed by the individual steps. However, unlike cookbooks there are corresponding pictures to the individual steps (so you know what it's supposed to look like at each stage!). This book also embraces the rustic appearance of pallets, so there's no reason to buy a rustic looking wine/bar cart for hundreds of dollars when you can make one yourself.
